Over time, changes that occur in large nations end up significantly shaping their subsets. Among the aspects susceptible to these fluctuations is the production of goods/services, which, in Brazil, is assessed through its regional distribution. Considering this phenomenon, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), in partnership with State Statistics Agencies, State Government Secretariats, and the Manaus Free Trade Zone Superintendency (Suframa), developed a set of estimates relevant to Social Accounting by Federation Units and the Federal District, called the Regional Accounts System (SCR). Based on the robust SCR database, this article examines the composition of the national productive structure from a state and regional perspective for the period from 2002 to 2022, with an emphasis on the particularities of the Pernambuco economy. The Location Quotient (LQ) calculation will be used, based on the Gross Value Added (GVA) variable, to analyze the processes of productive specialization of state economies and their evolution over time. Thus, the general objective of the article is to describe the analytical model of production specialization based on the economic activities that contribute most to value generation in state economies, using as a reference the 18 activities disclosed by the Regional Accounts System, highlighting the contribution of states and regions to the composition of Brazil's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). One of the final considerations points to a trend toward deconcentration of production in the country, although the Southeast region maintains its leadership in production generation, whose share has been on a downward trajectory.
