Abstract

Plants and plant-derived compounds have been used to prevent diseases and promote well-being since ancient times. Similarly, natural nootropics work by enhancing cognitive functions of the body,
with common substances in the daily lives of the population such as caffeine and flavonoids, which have the ability to improve brain health. The aim of the study was to highlight the use of nootropics
in everyday life, considering that many of these substances are readily accessible to the population and their implications on daily cognitive effects. A literature review was conducted, using articles
published in the last 5 years, with descriptors such as "Nootropics", "Cognitive Enhancer" and "Natural". Four articles were selected to examine the use of these neurostimulant substances in
daily contexts and what can be expected in terms of physiological and adverse effects. It was observed that moderate consumption, within the recommended dosage, poses no health risks and
the pharmaceutical industry is offering more options to contribute to the pharmacotherapy of these patients, thus promoting an improvement in cognitive and psychomotor performance.
It is also believed that flavonoids improve cognitive function through their neuroprotective properties, stimulating neurogenesis.
