Abstract

Plantar fasciitis (PF) is a chronic degenerative process, usually in the proximal insertion of the plantar fascia, resulting from repetitive overload, microlesions, and collagen degeneration, causing pain in the plantar region of the foot. Among conservative treatments, extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) and laser therapy stand out, both of which are non-invasive and effective in reducing pain. The present study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of laser therapy compared to ESWT in reducing pain in patients with PF. This is an integrative review, with a search in the Pedro, BVS, and PubMed databases, using keywords combined by the Boolean operator “AND.” It was observed that both therapies promote significant pain reduction, with laser therapy being faster, while ESWT has prolonged effects, especially in chronic cases. However, further studies and well-designed clinical trials are needed to standardize protocols and improve therapeutic application.
